Best practices for navigating and editing your resume

Navigate by Headings

Each resume section has a heading level 2. Use your screen reader's heading navigation (H key in NVDA/JAWS, Rotor in VoiceOver) to jump directly to the section you want to edit.

Use Forms Mode for Editing

When you reach a form field, switch to forms mode (Enter in NVDA, auto in JAWS) to type content. All fields have descriptive labels and placeholder text that is announced.

Live Region Announcements

Save confirmations, validation errors, and AI suggestions are announced through ARIA live regions. You do not need to navigate to find status messages.

Rich Text Fields

Description fields use a rich text editor with an accessible toolbar. Use Tab to reach the toolbar, arrow keys to navigate buttons, and Enter or Space to activate formatting options.

Known Limitations & Workarounds
  • PDF Preview: The live PDF preview panel is a visual rendering and cannot be read by screen readers. Use the "Preview as Text" option for an accessible version of your resume content.
  • Template Thumbnails: Template selection thumbnails include alt text descriptions, but the visual design details are best evaluated by sighted users. Template names and descriptions provide the key information.
  • Color Picker: The custom color picker in theme settings has limited screen reader support. Use the preset color palette or enter hex values directly in the text input for best results.
  • Drag and Drop: Section reordering via drag and drop requires a pointing device. Use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons as a keyboard and screen reader accessible alternative.
